Park Chan-kyong
Park Chan-kyong (b.1961, Korean) is a media artist, film director, and writer based in Seoul. His work examines Korean society, framing the rapid socioeconomic development of the past century while chronicling the often reckless pursuit of Western modernization and economic growth, through subjects including the Cold War and traditional Korean religions. He served as the Artistic Director of the SeMA Biennale Mediacity Seoul in 2014. Park’s work has been exhibited internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions including the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art (2023), National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (2019), Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin (2017), and Taipei Biennial (2016). Park was awarded the Hermès Korea Missulsang in 2004, and the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the 61th Berlin International Film Festival in 2011 for Night Fishing.
박찬경(b.1961)은 서울에 기반을 두고 활동하는 미디어 작가, 영화감독 그리고 작가이다. 2014년 SeMA 비엔날레 미디어시티 서울의 예술감독을 맡으며 기획자로서도 활동했다. 1990년대 평론가로 먼저 이름을 알린 박찬경은 이후 1997년 〈블랙박스: 냉전 이미지의 기억〉이란 주제로 금호미술관에서 개인전을 시작으로 본격적인 활동을 시작했다. 뿐만 아니라 박찬경은 한국의 동시대 미술을 대표하는 작가로서 냉전, 남북갈등, 민속신앙, 역사의 재구성과 같은 일련의 주제를 통해 한국의 근현대사를 되짚어 보는 작업을 선보여왔다. 그의 작업은 성장과 발전 추구라는 명분 아래 성찰과 치유의 기회 없이 앞만 보고 달려온 한국 사회를 되돌아본다. 주요 개인전으로는 스미스소니언 국립아시아미술관(2023), 국립현대미술관(2019), 국제갤러리(2017) 아뜰리에 에르메스(2008, 2012) 등이 있고, 독일HKW(2017), 타이베이 비엔날레(2016), 안양 공공예술프로젝트(2016), 아트선재센터(2013), 광주비엔날레(2006) 등 국내외유수의 기관에서 열린 그룹전에 참여하였다. 수상경력으로는 2004년 에르메스 코리아 미술상을 비롯해 영화감독 박찬욱과 공동 연출을 맡은 〈파란만장〉으로 2011년 베를린 국제영화제 단편영화부문에서 황금곰상을 받았다.
