Elmgreen & Dragset
Michael Elmgreen (b.1961, Copenhagen, Denmark) and Ingar Dragset (b.1969, Trondheim, Norway) are based in Berlin and have worked together as an artist duo since 1995. Their works often employ both humor and poignant sarcasm to comment on social and political issues. Across multiple mediums including architecture, installation, sculpture, and performance, the artists not only create narrative scenarios but also draw on absurdity to undermine the rigid systems that are embedded in the society we live in. Coinciding with Art Basel Paris, the artists are scheduled to open a new solo exhibition at Musée d’Orsay in Paris on October 15. Ongoing solo exhibition is at Amorepacific Museum of Art in Seoul, as a large-scale survey show . 북유럽 출신의 작가 듀오 엘름그린 & 드라그셋은 1995년부터 베를린을 거점으로 모든 프로젝트를 함께 해왔다. 덴마크 출신의 마이클 엘름그린(Michael Elmgreen, b. 1961)과 노르웨이 출신의 작가 잉가 드라그셋(Ingar Dragset, b. 1969)은 사실적인 조각을 비롯해 퍼포먼스, 디자인, 건축, 연극 등 다양한 영역을 넘나들며 유머와 철학이 공존하는 작품을 발표해왔다. 두 작가의 공동작업은 우리가 일상적으로 인지하는 공간과 구조물, 그리고 이에 주어진 기능이 결코 중립적이지 않으며, 오히려 다양한 의미와 위계질서가 파생되는 현장이라는 인식과 의심에서 비롯되었다. 또한 이러한 사회적 구조에 소속된 구성원인 현대인이 사회와 맺는 ‘부드러운’ 저항 관계와 이로부터 발생하는 무력감을 작업의 내러티브에 담아낸다.
