Kukje Gallery’s represented artists, Yeondoo Jung and Hein-kuhn Oh are participate in the REAL DMZ PROJECT 2013: Borderline. Initiated in 2011, this project is comprised of two exhibitions: one in Cheorwon near the DMZ border and the other in Seoul Artsonje Center. The REAL DMZ PROJECT 2013: Borderline examines borders that have been brought about due to divisions created through historical, political, economic, and social means, thereby drawing attention to the significance of (in)visible borderlines and the subsequent phenomena that they inevitably cause. In this exhibition, Yeondoo Jung’s diptych of two photographs provides simultaneous representations of cinematic truth and cinematic reality. In doing so, Jung reflects on the current state of affairs of a divided Korea. Through the unstable qualities of the military men, who hover between their personal identities and that of their country, Hein-kuhn Oh draws attention to the borderlines that still remain within us as well as wounds and scars caused by the Korean War.
