김수자는 스위스 제네바에 있는 국제 적십자사 미술관에서 열리는 그룹전 <실험과 진실: 간디와 비폭력의 이미지>에 참여한다. 이번 전시는 최초로 과거 종교기록화로서 대규모의 회화작품들과 20세기 후반 및 21세기의 현대 미술 작품들을 함께 다룬다. 1927년에 출간된 마하트마 간디의 자서전 나의 실험(*실천성 이라 의역될 수 있음)과 진실이라는 주제에 따라 비폭력의 윤리에 대해 탐구한다. 뿐만 아니라 간디의 잘 알려진 성품, 그의 믿음에 따른 신념, 그리고 라이프스타일이 돋보이는 다양한 접근으로서의 서로 다른 시대의 동서양 문화 속에서 예술이라는 이름 아래 비폭력이라는 주제를 고민한다. 주요참여 작가로는 마를렌 뒤마, 댄 플라빈, 아마르 칸워, 이브 클랭, 로버트 라우센버그, 아이 웨이웨이 등이 있으며 김수자는 21세기의 미술 작품들을 다루는 섹션에 <바늘 여인>을 출품예정이다.
Kimsooja is participating in a group exhibition Experiments with Truth: Gandhi and Images of Nonviolence at Musée international de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge in Genève, Switzerland. For the first time, this exhibition explores Mahatma Gandhi’s the art of nonviolence through tantric paintings, Koran parchments, Jain sculptures, Byzantine icons as well as modern and contemporary art. In 1927 Gandhi published an autobiography entitled “My experiments with truth.” The title refers to satyagraha, the “force of truth,” the cornerstone of civil disobedience that he championed and exemplified throughout his life. The exhibition analyzes Gandhi’s symbolic way of his beliefs and lifestyle, making connections with the theme nonviolence in the name of art within the Eastern and Western cultures during different time periods. Major participating artists include Marlene Dumas, Dan Flavin, Amar Kanwar, Yves Klein, Robert Rauschenberg, and Ai Weiwei, and Kimsuja will present Needle Woman in the contemporary art section.
