양혜규, 브뤼셀 데팡당스에서 개인전

양혜규는 브뤼셀에 소재한 젊은 감각의 전시공간 데팡당스에서 <샘플북>전을 개최한다. 작가는 이번 개인전을 통해 건축적으로 대칭을 이루는 전시 공간을 활용한 병렬로 구성된 다수의 신작 및 구작을 포함한 총12 작품을 선보인다. 특별히 이번 전시에서는 그간 다양한 양상의 상품의 ‘규격’과 ‘변조’에 대해 관심을 심화하여 그 일환으로 2000년과 2013년 두 차례 출판된 문방용품형식의 작업 <모눈 공책, Grid Block>과 베를린에서 활동하는 일러스트레이터 민정화와 협업으로 생산 및 발간되었던 <모눈 공책 A3>를 소개한다.

그 외에도 대규모 블라인드 설치 <솔 르윗 뒤집기>, 솔 르윗 (Sol LeWitt, 1928-2007)의 원작을 ‘뒤집고, 확장한’ 블라인드 소형 설치 두 점이 전시장 한 켠에 설치 예정이고, 9개의 패널에 홍콩 소재의 한 제직 공장의 직조물 띠를 상품 일련번호에 맞춰 배열한 신작 <샘플 – 홍콩 와이 헝 제직 공장, Samples – Wai Hung Weaving Factory Limited, Hong Kong> (2015)가 함께 선보여질 예정이다.

Haegue Yang is having a solo exhibition Sample Book in Gallerie Dépendence in Brussel, Belgium, an exhibition space known for its young and modern taste. The artist presents 12 works constituted in parallel compositions utilizing the exhibition space with symmetrical architecture. In particular, the artist for the first time introduces Grid Block Series, a collaborative project with the illustrator Jung-Hwa Min, as showcasing her growing interest in various aspects of ‘standards’ and ‘modulations’ of commercial products.

In addition to Grid Block Series, the artist presents Sol LeWitt Upside Down, large-size blind installations which flips and extends the original work of Sol LeWitt (1928-2007) and new work Samples – Wai Hung Weaving Factory Limited, Hong Kong which is an arrangement of woven bands from a textile factory in Hong Kong in their serial numbers on nine panels. The exhibition shows her profound interest in the uniformity of the industrial products produced under the rule of strict standards.
