동명의 전시로 대구미술관에서 개인전을 가졌던 이수경은 국제적 예술기관인 타이페이 현대미술관에서 다시 한 번 선보인다. 작가는 전통적 소재들을 현대적 감각으로 재해석하며 나와 타자, 의식과 무의식 등 서로 다른 층위에 존재하는 관계들을 더욱 복합적으로 담아낸다. 이번 전시에서는 타이페이 오페라 배우인 Min Hwa Yuan과의 협업인 <When I Become you>, 대만 작가 Max Liu를 모델로 한 <Learning from the Masters>와 타이페이 관객을 대상으로 종교적 형상을 설문 조사하여 모은 이미지들로 이루어진 <The Very Best Statue>를 신작으로 선보인다.
The exhibition When I Become You was hosted at the Daegu Museum, Korea, before its opening at MOCA, Taipei. Yeesookyung explores the duality of “subject and object”, “Consciousness and Subconsciousness,” also reflects upon tradition from a contemporary viewpoint while deriving new meanings from tradition. Her new works for the MOCA,Taipei include When I Become You, a collaborative piece with Ming Hwa Yuan Taiwanese opera actors; Learning from the Masters, in which she hails the late Taiwanese artist Max Liu (1912-2002) as her model; and The Very Best Statue, an assemblage of images of religious figures based on surveys of local audiences in Taiwan.
