김수자 작가는 밀라노 팔라쪼 모란도에서 오는 5월 29일부터 8월 30일까지 개최되는 <Fashion as Social Energy> 전에 참가한다. 이번 전시는 전세계에서 활동하는 14명의 현대미술 작가들과 패션 디자이너들이 패션을 소재로 제작한 다양한 매체의 작품들을 선보이며 지금까지의 패션이 가지고 있던 드레스와 장식, 욕망과 사회적 구분이라는 특징을 뛰어넘어 사회적 동력을 제공하는 새로운 아이디어와 가치를 제시한다. 이를 통해 환경에 대한 우려, 지역문화와 드레스 코드와의 관계, 동양과 서양 전통의 조합, 포함과 배제의 메커니즘, 신체의 취약성과 자아의 허무함 등 현대미술과 패션의 관계를 조명하는 기회를 마련한다. 국제갤러리의 김수자는 이번 전시에 2007년부터 2년 동안 제작한 <Mumbai: A Laundry Field>라는 영상 작업을 설치한다.
Kimsooja participates Fashion as Social Energy at Palazzo Morando, Milan, Italy from May 29 to August 30. 14 artists and fashion designers from around the world introduce their works with fashion in varied media and propose the idea of fashion as an engine to see the society differently and new values far beyond ornaments, desire and social distinction. The exhibition makes links between art and fashion by parallelizing their common roles in contemporary society of migration and ethnic hybridization, mobility and self-sufficiency, local culture and dress code, the individual dimension and its real possibilities of expression. Kimsooja presents Mumbai: A Laundry Field, a media installation produced in 2 years since 2007.
