국제갤러리 구본창의 작품이 4월 13일부터 6월 27일까지 프랑스 파리의 국립 기메 동양 미술관에서 개최되는 소장품전 <Orient / Asie - aller / retour>에 전시된다. 2001년 재개관 이후 처음으로 미술관이 소장한 사진 작품 156점을 한 자리에 선보이는 전시로써 19세기부터 현재까지 동서양을 아우르는 사진작품들을 전시한다. 사진을 통해 시공간 여행을 하는 것처럼, 그리스부터 이집트, 아프가니스탄, 일본, 한국 등을 담은 사진들은 사라진 풍경과 중요한 사건들을 담아낸 역사적인 기록들이자 동서양의 문화가 융합되는 과정을 보여주는 매개체이다. 본 전시는 이어 기메 미술관에 작품을 기부한 마크 리부와, 미술관에 소장된 도자기를 촬영한 구본창의 <Vessel> 시리즈 등 대표적인 현대사진작가들의 작품도 선보인다.

Koo Bohnchang’s works will be exhibited in Orient / Asie – aller / retour at the Guimet Museum in Paris, France from April 13 – June 27, 2016. This is the first exhibition presenting photography works from the museum’s collection since its reopening in 2001. Showing 156 works from the 19th century to the present, the photographs encompass the East to the West, creating a journey through time and space. From Greece, to Egypt, Afghanistan, Japan, and Korea, these photographs act as historical records and medium for the merging process of the cultures of the East and West by capturing vanished landscapes and vital happenings. This exhibition presents works major contemporary photographers, including artworks by Marc Riboud who donated his works to the Guimet, and Koo Bohnchang’s Vessel series where he photographed the museum’s ceramic collection.
