국제갤러리의 김용익은 9월 1일부터 11월 6일까지 일민미술관에서 개인전 《가까이…더 가까이…》를 개최한다. 이번 전시는 1990년대부터 공공미술, 민중미술, 대안공간 운동과 미술 교육 등 다양한 분야에서 활약해 온 김용익의 1997년 금호 미술관 개인전 이후 약 20년 만에 열리는 대형 회고전이다. 1970년대 단색화 계열의 작가로 시작하여 작업세계의 전환기를 맞이하는 초기 작업부터, 대표작인 <땡땡이 시리즈>를 비롯한 입체작품, 그리고 공공미술 실천가로서 개인적 고뇌가 응축되어있는 상자 시리즈까지 일민미술관의 세 전시실에서 작가의 진면목을 선보일 예정이다.
Kim Yong-Ik is an artist who has long been an advocate for public art, popular art, alternative spaces and art education. This fall he will be the subject of a solo exhibition titled Closer… Come Closer…at the Ilmin Museum of Art, from September 1 to November 6, 2016. The exhibition is the first major retrospective in 20 years, following his critically acclaimed 1997 solo exhibition at Kumho Museum of Art. On view are both early works from his period working within the milieu of Dansaekhwa as well as his more recent works including the Untitled (aka. ‘Box’) series and his signature Dot series. In addition, the exhibition will include sculptural works. All of the series being shown illustrate Kim’s struggle with the role of the public artist and the way artwork is archived and displayed. Kim Yong-Ik’s works will be exhibited in three galleries at the Ilmin Museum of Art.
