김수자는 8월 25일부터 10월 25일까지 항저우 저장성 미술관에서 열리는 제2회 항저우 섬유예술 트리엔날레에 참가한다. 항저우는 전통적인 직물공업을 바탕으로 한 섬유산업이 예부터 발달해 온 곳으로, 2013년 제1회 섬유예술트리엔날레를 성공적으로 개최한 바 있다. 올해 두 번째 전시를 맞아 20개국 40여명의 현대작가들 및 섬유예술작가들의 작품을 통해 천을 짜는 방직과 사회, 문명, 그리고 신체의 관계를 현대 미술 흐름에서 살펴보고자 한다. 또한 대담과 심포지움을 통해 방직의 역사를 연구하고 이를 도록 및 인터뷰 영상으로 제작하는 학술 활동도 병행될 예정이다. 김수자는 육각형으로 설치된 천 위에 6-채널 영상작업인 <바늘여인 (A Needle Woman)>(2005) 을 영사하여 앞 뒤 어느 공간에서도 감상할 수 있도록 선보일 예정이다. 또한 작가는 9월 26일에는 전시의 일환으로 준비된 항저우 심포지엄에 참여, 대담을 가질 예정이다.

Kimsooja will participate in The Second Hangzhou Triennial of Fibre Art 2016, which opens from August 25 to October 25 at the Zhejiang Art Museum in Hangzhou, China. Hangzhou enjoys a long history of advanced textile industry, which precipitated the success of the First Hangzhou Triennial of Fibre Art in 2013. Through an exploration of weaving, the second Hangzhou Triennial highlights relationships between history, civilization, and the human body within the contemporary arts trends. Forty artists and textile artisans from 20 different countries will participate in this exhibition. In addition, the Triennial will investigate the history of weaving through discourse and symposiums and publish these findings in catalogues and interview videos. Kimsooja will project her 6-channel video art A Needle Woman (2005) onto a hexagonal piece of fabric, installed so it may be viewed from all angles. On September 26th, the artist will give a talk as part of the Hangzhou symposium in conjunction with the exhibition.
