The National Portrait Gallery, located in Washington DC, will open its first media art exhibition with a solo exhibition titled Bill Voila: The Moving Portrait. Ever since Bill Viola stepped into the art world in the early 1970s, he has continued to merge technology and video art to poetically express perceptive and spiritual themes such as life and death,. This exhibition will span the artist’s career from his earlier years – The Reflecting Pool (1977-79) – to his more recent works, such as The Raft (2004) and The Dreamers (2013). The exhibition will include eleven self-examining works which create various kinds of movement and expressions by way of Viola’s representative motifs of water, light, and spirituality, and slow motion technology.
