국제갤러리의 김수자는 2017년 2월 25일부터 5월 22일까지 미국 펜실베니아 주 필라델피아 시의 Barnes Foundation에서 개최하는 그룹전 <Person of the Crowd: The Contemporary Art of Flânerie>에 참여한다. Flânerie (플라네리)는 ‘떠돌다’를 뜻하는 프랑스 단어로, 19세기에 프랑스 시인 샤를 보들레르 (Charles Baudelaire)로 인해 널리 사용되기 시작하였다. 이번 전시는 Flânerie라는 주제를 동시대적 관점으로 접근하여 김수자, 마리나 아브라모비치, 그리고 타니아 브루게라를 포함한 50여 명의 국제적인 작가들의 작품을 선보일 예정이다. 이 전시 기간 중 일부 작가들은 필라델피아의 거리에서 퍼포먼스를 선보일 예정이며, 이 퍼포먼스와 관객의 반응을 기록한 영상을 #personofthecrowd라는 해시태그를 달아 SNS로 공유할 예정이다. 인류학적 연구를 기반으로 작업을 해온 김수자는 이번 전시에 이집트 카이로에서 촬영한 비디오 퍼포먼스 작품 <A Homeless Woman – Cairo>(2001)를 선보일 예정이다.
Kimsooja participates in Person of the Crowd: The Contemporary Art of Flânerie, a group exhibition taking place from February 25 to May 22, 2017, at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Flânerie is a French verb which refers to the “act of roaming about,” and was popularized by the French poet Charles Baudelaire. This exhibition takes a contemporary approach to flânerie and showcases works by over 50 international artists including Kimsooja, Marina Abramović, and Tania Bruguera. Person of the Crowd also extends into the streets of Philadelphia with a series of performances by some of the participating artists. The public acts and audience reaction are recorded on video and shared via social media using the hashtag #personofthecrowd. Kimsooja, whose body of work is based on a cross-cultural and anthropological understanding of people, will showcase her video performance shot in Cairo, Egypt, A Homeless Woman – Cairo (2001).
