베니스비엔날레 한국관 작가로 주목 받았던 설치미술가 양혜규의 개인전이 서울 소격동 아트선재센터에서 열리고 있다. 이번 전시에서 작가는 지난 10년간 작업해 온 사진, 설치, 영상, 오브제 등의 주요 작품과 신작 등 총 10여 점을 소개하고 있다. 주체와 공동체 사이의 관계를 추상적으로 표현하고 있는 이러한 작품들 중 <서울 근성根性> 시리즈는 휴대전화 장식품, 빨래 건조대 등 일상적 사물들과 전선, 전구를 결합시켜 만든 광원(光源) 조각 작품으로 특히 주목할만하다. 이뿐만 아니라 3층에 마련된 블라인드 설치 <일련의 다치기 쉬운 배열 – 셋을 위한 그림자 없는 목소리>는 관람객의 소리에 반응하여 작품이 변화되는 것을 경험할 수 있을뿐더러 작가의 프로그래밍에 따라 조명기, 향 분사기 등이 작동하며 공감각적 참여를 이끌어낸다. 2009년 베니스비엔날레 출품작이었던 <쌍과 반쪽 – 이름 없는 이웃들과의 사건들>을 최초로 만나볼 수도 있는 이번 전시는 작가의 10여 년에 걸친 작업을 집대성한 귀중한 전시로 평가 받고 있다.
The Artsonje Centre is pleased to announce Haegue Yang’s solo exhibition entitled “Voice over Three.” This is Yang’s second solo exhibition in Korea since she has gained international recognition after the exhibition at the Korean Pavilion of 2009 Venice Biennale. In this exhibition, the artist showcases over 10 works, ranging from photography, video essays to installation and objects over past 10 years and will include her most recent works. Working with many different mediums in the manner of abstract, Yang incisively focuses on the relations between individuals regarding the notion of community. Among these works, Seoul Guts, a series of 6 light sculptures combining such objects in daily use as lucky charms and drying rack with light bulbs and wires, is a significant work reflecting the artist’s impression upon the city of Seoul. Moreover, one such work, titled Series of Vulnerable Arrangements – Shadowless Voice over Three is also a characteristic work as it draws viewers’ participation by responding to their sound. Programmed to generate lighting and certain types of scents, this piece engages multi-sensory experience to the public. Also featuring Doubles and Halves for the first time in Korea, her major work which premiered at the Venice Biennale in 2009, this landmark exhibition will be remembered as a unique event celebrating the artist’s 10 years of remarkable practice.
