Candida Höfer participates in a group exhibition titled Photographs Become Pictures: the Becher Class at the Städel Museum in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, from April 27 to August 13, 2017. This exhibition is a comprehensive survey on the Becher Class from the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, which refers to a group of photographers taught by Bernd and Hilla Becher during their twenty-year tenure that began in the 1970s. The 200 photographs on exhibit will examine the influence of the Bechers on their students, which include Candida Höfer, Thomas Struth, and Andreas Gursky, and investigate the art-historical impact of this development up to the very present. Candida Höfer will put on display a wide range of works, from the Waiting Room Cologne III (1981) to the Bibliothèque Nationale de France Paris XIII (1998), that defy architectural hierarchies and structures, and thus communicate the spatial experience in a particular way.
