김수자, 아니쉬 카푸어, 베니스 Palazzo Fortuny에서 개최하는 그룹전 참여 | KUKJE GALLERY

국제갤러리의 김수자는 2017년 5월 13일부터 11월 26일까지 이탈리아 베니스에 위치한 Palazzo Fortuny에서 개최하는 그룹전 <Intuition>에 참여한다. 베니스 비엔날레와 같은 기간 동안 열리는 이번 전시는 악셀&마이 벨부르트 재단(Axel & May Vervoordt Foundation)과 베네치아 박물관재단(Musei Civici di Venezia)의 협업 하에 성사된다. 벨부르트 재단은 2007년 《Artempo》전을 시작으로 2년마다 베니스 비엔날레 기간 동안 팔라조 포르투니에서 그룹전을 개최해왔으며, 올해 제 6회이자 마지막으로 《Intuition》을 개최된다. 고대의 토테미즘, 샤머니즘 의식에 활용된 도구들, 신의 계시를 받는 모습들을 표현한 종교 도상학부터 바실리 칸딘스키, 파울 클레의 추상 작품, 귄터 우커, 루치오 폰타나, 요셉 보이스의 플럭서스, 앙드레 브레통, 만 레이 등의 초현실주의 작품들, 그리고 정창섭, 마리나 아브라모비치, 아니쉬 카푸어 등의 현대미술작가들의 작품들이 망라되어 직관(intuition)이 문화와 세대, 지역을 따라 어떻게 형성되어왔는지를 살펴본다. 김수자는 지난 2016년 국립현대미술관 서울관 개인전 《마음의 기하학》에서 소개한 바 있는 수행적 설치작업 <마음의 기하학>을 클레이 워크숍 형태로 유럽에 처음 공개한다. 아니쉬 카푸어는 유리섬유로 만든 조각 <White Dark VIII>(2000)를 전시한다.

Kimsooja and Anish Kapoor will participate in Intuition, a group exhibition taking place from May 13 to November 26, 2017, at the Palazzo Fortuny in Venice, Italy. This exhibition has been organized by the Axel & May Vervoordt Foundation and the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia to coincide with the 57th Venice Biennale 2017. Since their inaugural Artempo exhibition in 2007, the Vervoordt Foundation has been exhibiting group shows every two years during the Venice Biennale period at Palazzo Fortuny. Intuition will be the sixth in a highly acclaimed series of exhibitions. Some of the earliest works on display in the exhibition will reveal the role of intuition in encouraging artists to connect the two worlds, first attempts by man to create an immediate link between the sky and the earth: from the erection of totems to shamanism and mystical ecstasy; and from religious iconography describing illuminations (Annunciation, Visitation, Pentecost…), to classical works capturing the divine revelation of dreams. Modern works by Vassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Gunther Uecker, Lucio Fontana, Josheph Beuys’ Fluxus, Andre Breton, Man Ray will be exhibited along with contemporary artists Chung Chang-Sup, Mariana Abramovic, and Anish Kapoor. Collectively, these works will explore how intuition has, in some fore, shaped art across geographies, cultures and generations. Kimsooja’s Archive of Mind (2016), a performative installation that was previously showcased in her solo exhibition at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) Seoul in 2016, is introduced for the first time in Europe in the form of a clay workshop. Anish Kapoor will display his fiberglass sculpture White Disk VIII (2000).
