국제갤러리의 김수자는 제 31회 김세중 조각상 수상자로 선정되었다. 김세중 조각상은 1987년 한국 현대조각 제 1세대 작가인 김세중(1928~1986)의 업적을 기리기 위해 제정되었으며 역대 수상자로는 안규철, 엄태정, 박석원, 김영원 등이 있다. 올해 심사위원으로는 조각가 최만린, 이화여대 교수 윤난지, 서울대 미대 학장 문주, 미술 비평가 김복기, 홍익대 교수 전영백이 참여하였다. ‘보따리’ 시리즈로 세계적 주목을 받은 김수자는 장소 특정적(site-specific) 설치작업과 퍼포먼스를 통해 작가 자신과 사회와의 관계를 탐구해왔다. 이번 조각상의 시상식은 6월 24일 오후 5시 서울 용산구 ‘예술의 기쁨’ 대강당에서 열릴 예정이다.
Kimsooja has been named the 31st Kim Se-Choong Sculpture Award laureate. Established in 1987, the Kim Se-Choong Sculpture Award is enacted to honor the accomplishments of Kim Se-Choong (1928 – 1986), one of the first generation of contemporary Korean sculptors. Notable past awardees include Ahn Kyuchul, Um Tai Jung, Park Suk-Won, and Kim Youngwon. This year’s judges are sculptor Choi Man Lin, Nanjie Yun (professor of Fine Arts at Ehwa Womans University), Moon Joo (president of the College of Fine Arts at Seoul National University), art critic Kim Boggi and Young-baek Chun (professor of Fine Arts at Hongik University). Kimsooja, who received world-wide attention for her Bottari series, also worked with site-specific installations and performances that enabled her to explore the relationship between herself and the rest of society. The award ceremony will take place at the ‘Joy of Arts’ Auditorium in Yongsan-gu, Seoul on June 24, 2017 at 5 PM.
