우고 론디노네, 미국 Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive에서 개인전 개최 | KUKJE GALLERY

국제갤러리의 우고 론디노네는 2017년 6월 28일부터 8월 20일까지 미국 캘리포니아 버클리에 위치한 Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive에서 개인전 <the world just makes me laugh>를 개최한다. 본 전시는 대중문화뿐만 아니라 낭만주의와 초현실주의와 같은 역사적인 예술 사조에서 영감을 받은 이미지와 주제를 담아낸다. 무지개, 광대 및 광대의 신발과 같이 시각적으로 가벼운 느낌을 주는 모티프에 눈을 뗄 수 없는, 심리적으로 강렬한 느낌을 주는 설치가 만나 우울한 분위기를 연출한다. 이번 전시의 대표작품으로는 45개의 실물 크기의 삐에로 조각들로 구성된 <vocabulary of solitude>가 설치된다. 이 외에 60점의 ‘1998 diary’ 드로잉 시리즈 작품, 4 쌍의 삐에로 신발, 8점의 'sun’ 시리즈 대형 패인팅, 왁스를 조각해 만든 대형 백열전구, 그리고 버클리를 포함한 전세계 어린이들이 직접 그린 수천 점의 무지개 그림도 함께 전시 될 예정이다.

Ugo Rondinone will be featured in a solo exhibition titled the world just makes me laugh at the Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive (hereafter BAMPFA) from June 28 to August 27, 2017. The exhibition will incorporate imagery and themes from popular culture as well as drawing inspiration from historical art movements such as Romanticism and Surrealism. Seemingly lighthearted motifs including rainbows, clowns, and clown shoes take on a melancholy tone in this riveting and psychologically intense installation. Forty-five life-size, highly realistic clown sculptures from Rondinone’s installation vocabulary of solitude, form the centerpiece of this exhibition. Along with this installation, the exhibition will feature several related works, including Rondinone’s drawing series 1998 diary, which consists of sixty works; four pairs of clown shoes; eight large-scale paintings from the artist’s sun series; an oversized lightbulb sculpted from wax; and thousands of drawings of rainbows made by children from all over the world, including Berkeley.
