매년 세계 물의 날에 맞추어 열리는 국제환경사진전(Prix Pictet)은 사회와 환경 변화에 관한 사진들을 선별해 전시한다. 이번 해의 주제는 “성장”에 관한 것으로 국제갤러리 전속작가 정연두를 포함해서 토마스 스트루스, 마이클 울프, 크리스 고든 등의 선별된 세계적인 작가들의 작품들이 순회 전시된다. 이 순회 전시에 출품된 정연두 작가의 “에버그린 타워 Evergreen Tower”는 서울의 고층 빌딩들에 사는 사람들의 초상들을 변형하여 만든 비디오 작품으로 동일한 디자인으로 이루어진 아파트 내부공간과 그 안에 사는 사람들의 차이가 눈에 띈다. 국제환경사진전 역대 최초로 북미에서 진행되고 있는 이번 콜코란 갤러리에서의 순회전은 현재까지 파리, 테사로니키, 취리히, 밀라노, 뒤셀도르프와 마드리드를 거쳤으며 이후 베이루트, 두바이, 아인트호벤과 런던으로 이어질 예정이다.
Prix Pictet is a prestigious prize awarded to photographers whose work addresses social and environmental change. The third prize, which revolves around the theme of "growth", includes world-renown artists including Yeondoo Jung, Thomas Struth, Michael Wolf, Chris Gordon. A clever video by Yeondoo Jung, in which he morphs together a series of still portraits of people who live in a high-rise tower in Seoul; the apartments are identical in design, so the families’ decorative touches offer the primary points of difference. This exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington is the first presentation of Prix Pictet in the United States. The exhibition has been presented in Paris, Thessaloniki, Zurich, Milan, Dusseldorf and Madrid and will continue traveling to Beirut, Dubai, Eindhoven and London.
