국제갤러리의 홍승혜 작가는 서로 다른 분야에서 활동하는 건축가 이진오, 사진작가KDK(김도균)과 함께 독특한 방식의 협업 프로젝트를 진행했다. 작가는 이진오와 함께 서대문구에 있는 임광빌딩의 공용공간 리뉴얼 작업에 참여하였으며, KDK(김도균)은 그 결과를 사진으로 작업하여 갤러리2에서 선보인다.
이번 전시 은 이들의 협업이 ‘건축(Archi)’을 중심으로 구현되었고, 협업의 모든 과정을 서로 간의 긴밀한 ‘대화(Talk)’를 통해 진행되었었음을 보여준다.
홍승혜 작가는 사무를 목적으로 하는 공간을 정서적 공간으로 탈바꿈했다. 로비 정면에 보이는 벽 전면과 천장 전체를 백색의 LED 조명을 사용하여 빛의 공간으로 조성하였고, 로비 양쪽에는 직원들이 사용할 수 있는 테이블인 동시에 나침반과 등고선 형상의 시 – 공간의 의미를 품은 입체조각을 설치하였다. 뿐만 아니라 건물 벽면에는 홍승혜의 대표적인 픽셀 혹은 격자무늬를 활용한 구조물이 설치되었다.
이 리뉴얼 작업은 공간이 고려된 평면을 기반으로 “이미지가 현실이 되는 것”을 탐구해온 홍승혜 작가와 공간을 대상으로 건축물의 질감에 탐구해온 건축가 이진오의 상호보완적인 과정을 통해 공간 전체가 하나의 작품으로 완성되었다. KDK(김도균)은 공간을 피사체로서 바라보는 또 다른 관점을 제시하며 이에 대한 맥락을 더욱 풍부하게 했다.

Hong Seung-Hye of Kukje Gallery has conducted a unique type of collaborative project with experts from different fields – architect Lee Jin Oh and photographer KDK (Kim Dokyun). Hong Seung-Hye and Lee Jin Oh have participated in redeveloping communal spaces of Lim Kwang tower, located in Seodaemun-gu. The result was then photographed by KDK (Kim Dokyun), the documentations of which are now on view at Gallery 2.
The exhibition Ka-talk archi-talk describes the shaping of their collaboration to revolve around ‘architecture (Archi)’, and how such a collaborative process was carried out through ‘talking (talk)’.
Hong Seung-Hye has transformed the office space into an emotive one. With the entire wall being able to be seen from the lobby and the ceiling covered with white LED lights, a feeling of the infinite is created by fully infusing the lighting of the space. Circular sculptures placed on both sides of the lobby serve as tables for the employees, and the three-dimensional sculptures embody facets of time and space through their compasses and contour lines. Several constructions, created in Hong’s signature style of pixels and lattices, were installed at a variety of locations throughout the space.
Despite her focus on the two-dimensional, Hong has always had a dormant interest in their spatial qualities and in “turning an image into reality”. In contrast, Lee primarily works in three dimensions though he is sensitive to details and textures. They mutually benefitted from one another in creating an artwork which utilizes the entire space. KDK helped to enrich the relevant contexts of the work by locating the aesthetic structures hidden in the space.
