INTRODUCTION
Kukje Gallery is pleased to present Interiors, a group exhibition featuring furniture by mid-century designers coupled with modern and contemporary artworks.
Playing off the double meaning of both psychological and architectural space, Interiors recreates a series of domestic vignettes that showcase the interplay between art and design. The concept of an “interior” space evokes a state of mind - suggesting a personal search for perfect balance where formal elements are in harmony and emotional forces are integrated.
Whether in life or in art, an aesthetic interior arrangement frames and compliments the pursuit of enlightenment.
By pairing contemporary art works with early modernist furnishings, the gallery replicates the mood of a vibrant salon or exquisitely appointed scholar’s study, both spaces that suggest great refinement of taste and superior intellect. Many of the twentieth century’s most innovative designers were committed to exploring ideals of material innovation and philosophical inquiry and this interest mirrors the fascination avant-garde artists have in creating psychologically provocative works that explore the strange beauty of nature. It is this intersection of beauty and mindfulness that defines the best art and design and is showcased in Interiors.
국제갤러리는 여름 이벤트 전시로 신관에서 ‘Interiors’를 개최한다. 이 전시는 생활 공간 속에서 현대 미술과 현대의 가구가 어떻게 함께 조우하여 아름다운 공간을 연출하는지 보여주며 인테리어의 세련된 아이디어들을 제공한다.
전시 작품으로는 지난 몇 년 간 국제갤러리에서 기획된 가구 전시들 - 장 푸르베 전 (2005년), 조지 나카시마 전(2006년), 샤를로트 페리앙 전(2007년) - 에서 소개된 바 있는 디자이너들을 비롯해 20세기 디자인사에서 거론되는 여러 디자이너들의 생활 가구 용품들이 전시된다. 그리고 이와 함께 국제갤러리에서 주로 다루어온 현대 미술 거장들의 예술 작품들이 함께 어우러져 선보여진다.
이 전시는 정신적이자 건축적으로 공간을 이해하는 동시에 예술과 디자인이 상호 작용한 일련의 단편적인 인테리어 장면들로 연출된다. 인테리어의 개념은 심리적인 요소를 재현하면서 형식적인 요소들이 조화를 이루고 감성적인 힘과 통합되어 완전한 균형을 이루는 것에 있다.
전시장에 하나의 시리즈처럼 현대 미술과 짝지어진 가구의 풍경들은 마치 고급 응접실이나 훌륭하게 꾸며진 학자의 서재를 연출한 듯이 구성되어 있으며 가장 세련되고 지적인 감각을 발휘한다.
