The Dansaekhwa master Ha Chong-Hyun’s signature Conjunction series is created by applying thick oil paint to the back of and pushing it to the front of the surface through the coarse weave, a process known as bae-ap-bub. Ha’s works possess a serene yet bold sense of materiality; the white color on Conjunction 20-07 holds a uniquely Korean aesthetic that reflects the artist’s lifelong exploration into organic tones from familiar surroundings.
단색화의 거장 하종현의 대표 연작인 ‘접합’은 올이 굵고 거친 마대자루의 뒷면에 두꺼운 물감을 바르고 앞면으로 밀어 넣는 방식인 ‘배압법(背押法)’으로 제작된다. 간결하고 고요하면서도 강렬한 물성을 띄며, 한국적 미감을 드러내는 특유의 흰색은 일상 속 익숙하고 친근한 대상에서 고유의 색을 발견해온 작가의 탐구를 반영한다.
